Start from 12.00hrs on Sunday 5th June 2016.
The ToC Gran Fondo is a mass participation cycle sport event. It is also the 2016 UK qualifier for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.
The Gran Fondo is held on fully closed roads over 80.2 miles (129.07km). Riders competing to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships must compete over the long route. An option to participate over a shorter route of 58.2miles (93.66km) is also available for Leisure riders.
The ToC Gran Fondo caters for four communities of rider:
Riders are invited to self-select their rider community during the ToC Entry process.
All Finishers are entitled to a ToC 2016 finisher medal which will be issued as rider crosses the finish line. Riders finishing in the top 25% of their Masters Age/Gender Classification (see Race Book for details) will be invited to the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships and receive a UGFWS Qualifiers medal. The ToC Gran Fondo has a spectacular podium. The first 3 riders in each Masters Age / Gender Classification will be invited to the Podium to receive their medal and prizes (see Race Book for details). Times and results will be sent electronically to the riders mobile phones (see Race Book for details).
The Gran Fondo has a number of Pit Stops where energy products, water and some solid food will be provided(see Race Book for details).
The Gran Fondo will have medical support from a fleet of ambulances located around the route, a fleet of Moto Paramedics patrolling all sections of the route, a fleet of motorcycle Police to provide additional security ,a fleet of lead cars with Commissaires, the National Escort Group and a fleet of motor cycle based photographers. The Gran Fondo routes also have direction signage and at critical junctions Race Stewards as well as Traffic management professionals. An emergency telephone number will be provided for the ToC HQ Control Room in the event that a Rider needs urgent attention to allow the emergency services to prioritise the medical resources.
A Broom Wagon service will be operated to repatriate riders and their bikes back to the ToC HQ at PAS if required to do so.
The Gran Fondo Start and Finish are being produced at the Peterborough Arena and Showground. The Gran Fondo route is on high quality roads which are rolling to the west of the A1 and flat to the east of the A1 and exposed to winds.
Finally the Gran Fondo has a King of the Mountains competition based upon the shortest cumulative time taken by riders for the ascents of the four climbs on route (see Race Book for details)
